  • Te Tuhi Video Game System
    Website:

This project started life as an artwork installation at Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts in Manukau City. Turning drawings on paper into video games, Douglas Bagnall has released Te Tuhi under the GPL and partially ported it to the One Laptop Per Child XO platform. While the project is still a work in progress, it demonstrates to kids of all ages a whole new way to interact and understand the computer. Using Creative Commons sounds, open source tools and running on Linux, Te Tuhi adds to Douglas' portfolio of creative uses of free software.

Sofwarefreedomday Events

Submitted by donchristie on September 17, 2008 - 13:56.

The softwarefreedomday.org website seems to be lacking in some detail on SFD events around New Zealand so I have decided to put together a list of I know about. Please to contact us to correct details or add your event.

First the Hibiscus Coast gLUG are hoping to have stands at Orewa Library and Whangaparaoa Mall from 10am to 4pm.

Auckland's Wharf IT is hosting an event. Details can be found here.

In Hamilton the ever strong Waikato LUG is holding their event from 10am to 5pm Waikato University S-Block lower foyer, free wireless and Nandor Tanczos kicking what looks like a great day off.

Not to be outdone New Plymouth are holding their event at Puke Ariki. The details are:

Puke Ariki - far corner of Ground Floor
Date: Saturday, 20 September 2008
Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm

In Wellington we have a hackfest and barcamp happening in the town hall. Details and registration on the fantastic website created specially for the occassion. http://softwarefreedomday.org.nz/

And Christchurch celebrates its eighth SFD event at South Learning Centre, South Christchurch Library, 66 Colombo Street, Beckenham. Time 10am to 4pm

Good luck to all involved and have a great day.
